The Issue
Homeschooling is no longer a niche choice, it’s one of the fastest-growing pathways for families across the UK. In fact, the number of children being electively home educated has risen by over 21% in just one year, with more than 111,000 students recorded as homeschooled in autumn 2024. Parents are increasingly turning to this option as schools struggle with overcrowding, unmet Special Educational Needs, and rising levels of exam stress and anxiety.
The reality is that traditional classrooms are not meeting the needs of every child. A recent study found that one in five pupils is persistently absent from school, often due to emotional distress and over 90% of these children are neurodivergent. At the same time, 85% of students report experiencing exam anxiety, but only a small fraction receive meaningful support. For many families, homeschooling offers the chance to step away from a system that is failing to provide the care and individual attention their children need.
While homeschooling provides freedom, flexibility, and the ability to tailor education, it also brings challenges.
